2012 New Year baby arrives at St. Joseph’sThe soft sounds of Brahm’s Lullaby gently plays over St. Joseph’s Area Health Services intercom at 5:25 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5 heralding the arrival of the New Year baby. Smiles always break out throughout the hospital when the lullaby plays overhead no matter the time of day – or night. Prayers are silently offered up in celebration. Thursday morning was no exception as Shane and Kaye Foley of Park Rapids welcomed the New Year bundle to their family. Sawyer Reed Foley arrived weighing 9 pounds, 2 ounces and measuring 21 inches and was delivered by one of St. Joseph’s Obstetrics (OB) Department core physicians, Dr. Scott Maanum. Sawyer and his parents received a gift basket of goodies from St. Joseph’s and area businesses to commemorate his status as the New Year baby. Gifts included a handmade wooden cradle crafted by Scott Disney of Disney Wood Works in Park Rapids. The playing of Brahm’s lullaby is a new service provided to OB parents with their permission. St. Joseph’s also provides childbirth preparation classes for those in their 7th, 8th, and 9th month of pregnancy. Young siblings also have a chance to prepare for their new brother or sister with a classes targeted just for them.
