St. Joseph’s Home Care/Hospice to host End-of-Life Ethics program

“Life is so fragile,” says Lucinda Peterson, LSW at St. Joseph’s Area Health Services Hospice. “Patients and their loved ones facing end-of-life issues help to shape difficult decisions based on their values and beliefs… often through many tears.”

The focus of this year’s Hospice Foundation of America (HFA) annual education event speaks to this delicate issue.

St. Joseph’s Hospice will host the HFA “End-of-Life Ethics” program from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 1 in St. Joseph’s lower level conference room A.

The public, clergy, healthcare workers (CE credits), funeral directors, counselors and more are encouraged to attend the free, educational forum.

“End-of-Life Ethics” uses a case study approach to examine ethical issues and dilemmas that can arise at the end of life, principles of ethical decision-making and effects of these decisions on families and professionals who care for dying persons.

This year marks the 19th annual delivery of this award-winning, national bereavement event and broadcast.

Presenting panelists include: Timothy Arsenault, MA; Karen Bullock, PhD, LCSW; Eileen Chichin, PhD, RN; Kenneth Koka, PhD, MDiv; Bruce Jennings, MA; and Neal Slatkin, MD, DABPM. Former ABC News’ 20/20 correspondent Lynn Sherr will moderate.
