The proximity of state-of-the art equipment necessary for critical medical situations provides peace of mind to area residents. You can be confident that if an emergency arises or intensive medical treatment is necessary, the technology is readily accessible.

St. John’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) staff is unique in that most staff member have many years of experience working in the critical care field and commit to educational training to stay abreast of the latest methods. This specialized team of professionals are certified in advanced cardiac life support. ICU maintains essentially a two to one patient/staffing ratio. Three internal medicine physicians and family physicians are on board. Dr. Dan Smith, surgeon, is also a critical care/fellowship-trained physician which is a rarity in a rural hospital setting.

Respiratory care is also an integral part of the ICU team.

The latest in technological furnishings and equipment represent the most recent advances in treatment, including standard cardiac and oxygen saturation monitoring and invasive monitoring capabilities. Our staff treat acute and chronic respiratory illnesses, diabetes, overdoses, and cancer patients as well as surgical acute care patients needing thoracic abdominal and vascular surgeries.

St. John’s staff participates in system and nation-wide initiatives to continually improve quality assurance and reinforce protocols used by hospital across the nation.

Our multi-disciplinary approach includes attention to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients and their families. The convenience of being close to home and family support added to state-of-the-art technology make us the first choice for area residents needing intensive care.
